A Brief History...
My City Underground was a Buffalo,
NY-based public access variety show. It might best be
described as a poor man's Saturday Night Live. The show
featured local and regional independent film/video shorts,
music videos, comedy skits, local standup performances,
and much more. The first 30 minute episode aired on
TCI Cable Channel 18 in November of 1996. A second cable
system, Adelphia Cable, was added to the viewership
soon after. The show went on to air 62 weekly episodes
over an 18 month period. This first version was produced
by Ed Hecht with Associate Producer Jennifer Shanley.
The show experienced a brief reprise in the Summer 2003,
debuting 6 new episodes. Utilizing the marketing savvy
of Associate Producer David Anderson, version 2.0 of
the show focused on showcasing indie film & video
shorts on the national as well as local/regional levels.
Alas, other commitments got in the way and I was forced
to bury MCU for good. It continues to live a virtual
life here on these pages. Never
judge a city by its cloud cover!
